Nearby is the village of Waitomo, where the Waitomo Caves can be found. These caves are known for the thousands of glow-worms that light up the Glowworm Caves. Also found here are the vast Ruakuri Cave, featuring waterfalls and limestone formations. West, Mangapohue Natural Bridge is a high limestone arch over Mangapohue Stream. Northeast of the village, Otorohanga Kiwi House shelters several species of the rare native kiwi bird.
