Boquerón

A department in the western parts of Paraguay, Boqueron is the country’s largest district. It’s also Paraguay’s largest desert, making it an ideal place to get lost in the middle of nowhere. You’ll find streams with dry riverbeds like those of Rio Negro, and it rarely rains in the region, making it quite the dry destination. Still, it’s not entirely desolate. There are trees, brushwood, cactus, dunes, and small hills in Boqueron, with many of the trees being rare due to their proximity to extinction. Despite the harshness of Boqueron, it’s still experiencing the greatest rate of population increase, and ecological tourism is starting to take off there. As such, it’s certainly home to deserts but it's not deserted. Get lost in the region and immerse yourself; you’ll then understand why.
