Presidente Hayes

A department in the southwest region of Paraguay, Presidente Hayes is home to a vast natural region with four Chaco biomes. They are the floodplains of the Paraguay River, Pozo Azul, Laguna Salada, and the floodplains of the Pilcomayo River. As such, nature lovers will find a rare selection of native plants, including timbo, samu’u, quebracho blanco y Colorado, and the karanday. If you’re looking to enjoy hiking along scenic areas, visit Rio Pilcomayo National Park. It’s home to open grasslands, swamps, lagoons, and pumas. You should consider making a pit stop in the department’s capital, Villa Hayes. It’s home to a number of historic museums that offer looks at Paraguay’s culture and significant events in its past.
