Ancash

North of Lima and bordering the Pacific Ocean lays the quaint region of Ancash. There, you’ll find Huaraz, its capital city that sits between Ancash’s two mountain ranges. As such, if you’re traveling to the region, you should certainly pay a visit to the capital—especially if you’re looking to hike Ancash’s ranges. The city is located almost 10,000 feet above sea level, and it’s home to an interesting selection of wildlife, including Andean condors and jaguars. Among Ancash’s highlights include the Cordillera Blanca, a range that is apart of the Andes and is home to several peaks. Then there’s Huascaran National Park. That’s where you’ll find Peru’s highest mountain, a variety of glacial lakes, and a beautiful landscape great for activities of all kinds, including hiking and picnics.
