NY state parks camping in Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park
Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park covers more than 14,000 acres of land in Putnam and Dutchess counties. Here, you’ll find miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, NY campgrounds, and plenty of opportunities for boating, hunting, fishing, and birding. Fishing at both lakes by boat, Stillwater and Canopus Lakes, and the four ponds is excellent all year long. Avid anglers can hope to catch bass, pickerel, perch or brook, and rainbow trout. Note that all freshwater fishing requires a permit from New York State, which can be obtained from town halls or in many sporting goods stores in the area. In fact, the park, in general, is a great four-season destination for camping in New York. The park is home to places like the Taconic Outdoor Education Center, which provides environmental programming, as well as the Fahnestock Winter Park, which includes 15 miles of well-groomed trails for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. No matter the temperature, you can always go camping! NY state parks like Fahnestock make it easy for NYC residents to get out of the city for a few days and enjoy the fresh air.
