If you are looking for more hiking, Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty has 13 miles of trails, while you can find fall foliage surrounding one of the most scenic Catskills waterfalls hiking Vernooy Kill Falls in Kerhonkson, NY. The soil of the Catskills grows crisp, juicy, flavorful apples, perfect for making into sweet apple cider and distilling into refreshing hard cider. Head to Wayside Cider in Delhi or Abandoned Hard Cider in Parksville for a taste of the heirloom apples crafted into small-batch. Places like Stone Ridge Orchard, Kelder’s Farm, or Story Farms are great places for apple picking right from the tree. There are so many different ways to enjoy the autumnal landscape, but we’ll only share a few of our favorites. First, you can take a walk through Shepard Park, right on the shores of Lake George. Here, you can enjoy all that the village has to offer as well as the scenic sights and foliage of the park and around the lake. A plus, the Adirondack Winery is right across from the park, where you can enjoy a cider or wine tasting after your stroll. You can also hike, or drive, up Prospect Mountain, where the views from the summit are breathtaking. Cat and Thomas Mountains, near Bolton Landing, are two more great places for a hike. Owned by the Lake George Land Conservancy, the Cat and Thomas Mountain Preserve offers a variety of trails that range in difficulty. A few other of our favorite hikes around Lake George include Black Mountain and Sleeping Beauty Mountain. Any of these hiking trails are a great way to explore the area and enjoy the colors of the season while on your fall getaways. Upstate NY and Lake George are also home to some great farms for apple and pumpkin picking. From Ellms Family Farm in Ballston Spa to Bill Bob’s Orchard in Putnam Station or Bowman Orchards in Rexford, these family-run farms are a great place to spend the afternoon.
