This is a small cove on the Ceredigion Heritage Coast that most people drive straight past. There's no sign on the main road, and the valley keeps it hidden. This sits at the bottom, thirty seconds from the beach, on the Wales Coast Path between Llangrannog and New Quay — and it's one of the best-kept secrets on the Welsh coast.

The building is made from reclaimed shipping containers, clad in larch, with large porthole windows and canvas canopies over the deck. It was designed by a local architect, holds a Green Tourism Gold Award and a Visit Wales Innovation in Tourism Award, and was featured on Channel 4's Britain's Best Beach Huts. It looks like nothing else you'll stay in.

Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen with a large cooker, spacious fridge and everything you need for group cooking, plus a comfortable lounge with games, books, music and WiFi. The covered deck sits under the sails with a large dining table, infrared heaters and hammocks — usable for much of the year. There's also a utility and drying room, two WCs and two hot outdoor showers for rinsing off after the beach, plus a garden with a firepit and BBQ.

Upstairs, three heated and insulated sleeping cabins each sleep four in comfortable bunks — twelve guests in total. Fitted sheets and single duvets are provided; bring your own duvet covers and pillowcases. Two shower rooms with WCs serve the floor.
Kayaks, a surfboard, bodyboards, lifejackets and boules are all included, with secure storage if you're bringing your own gear. Previous guests have paddleboarded, kayaked, surfed, fished, cycled, foraged, and done yoga and wellbeing courses — the space works for whatever you want to make of it.

The beach is a hundred metres from the door. It's quiet and sheltered, sandy in places, with a stream running into the sea and a rock pool at one end. Seals come to pup on the beach in autumn and are around for much of the year — guests regularly swim alongside them. Dolphins are common in the bay, and New Quay, half an hour along the coast path, runs boat trips out to find them.

Cwmtydu is closer to things than it feels. New Quay and Llangrannog are nearby, and Aberaeron, Cardigan, Aberystwyth and Narberth are all an easy drive. It's a good base for exploring the whole of coastal West Wales.
