For glampers looking for a holiday filled with outdoor activities, this is the ideal spot. With the Galloway Forest Park being so close to the cottage, guests can opt for a challenging hike up the Merrick or a less strenuous but equally stunning hike around Glentrool. The ancient oakwoods are a sight to behold, especially in the autumn months as the plant life changes into beautiful golden colors. There are also ample opportunities for guests to get out on bikes. Whether on or offroad is their preference, there are few more idyllic spots than in Wigtownshire. It's possible to go for miles without encountering any traffic on the roads, and for the offroader, there are challenging routes over rocks and hills to keep even the more experienced cyclist occupied. Fishing is available in both the nearby lochs and the sea. Guests can try and catch salmon, pike, trout, cod, pollack, gurnard, mackerel, sea bass, and sea trout. It is also a wonderful opportunity for wildlife viewing. There are a couple of nature reserves nearby where guests may see red squirrels, badgers, otters, seals, ospreys, and many other species besides. For those interested in local history, the area has strong ties to Robert the Bruce. Guests shouldn't miss out on the opportunity to visit Bruce's Stone or Cruggleton Castle.
Additionally, guests can enjoy some of the country's finest stargazing in Galloway Forest Park, the UK's first Dark Sky Park, or visit some spectacular ancient monuments such as the stone circles at Drumtroddan and Torehouse or one of the many castles dotted around the region.
