Welcome to the Cozy Cabin, a small rustic log cabin tucked against the Bitterroot National Forest—where mornings begin with a simple rhythm of coffee on the patio, and evenings end with a big starry sky. Enjoy exceptional views that stretch as far as the eye can see, offering the perfect backdrop for conversations on the patio, or simply unwinding and taking in fresh air far away from city lights.

Inside, the Cozy Cabin greets you with simple living, a step back in time to former days as a hunting cabin. Nothing fancy, yet warm and inviting. The original linoleum floor with its wear and tear means easy living for all types of boots, shoes, and paws. The rustic shower offers hot water on a cool morning, or a cool shower on a hot evening.

But don't let the rustic nature of the Cozy Cabin fool you. Easy living means relaxation. No worry. No stress. Just simple living when time stands still and the only sounds are crickets and birdsong.

CAMP:
This is a young homestead of 6 sunny acres surrounded by the Bitterroot National Forest. Since opening in September 2024, travelers and outdoor enthusiasts from over 20 countries have enjoyed the property that includes the cozy cabin and 2 wall tents.

CABIN:
The cabin was originally a hunting cabin, which reflects its simplicity. The linoleum floors and simple furnishings means easy living so you can relax and enjoy yourself. Although small, the cozy space offers hot/cold water, full fridge, bathroom with a rustic but hot shower, propane barbecue, fully fenced yard, and more. There are two single beds in the cabin. If you have kids or another adult, you're welcome to bring cots or sleeping pads and bedding.

FRESH WATER:
An underground spring provides the cabin with fresh potable water straight from the kitchen sink.

BEDROOM:
The small bedroom offers a 5-drawer dresser, and two single beds with warm linen. Children and extra guests are welcome though no extra beds are available.

HEAT:
The cabin is heated by a large woodstove. Free firewood, kindling and matches are provided.

BATHROOM:
The rustic bathroom offers a small yet hot shower, towels, shampoo, condition, soap, toilet, and apartment-sized washer and dryer. A sink in the kitchen offers running hot and cold water for brushing your teeth, shaving, etc.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen offers a tiny sink with potable water, full size fridge with upper freezer, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric hotplate, small toaster oven, pots and pans, plates, mugs, bowels, utensils, and table with three chairs. More seating is available on the patio.

COOKING:
Guests are welcome to cook with the cast-iron pan right on the woodstove, or use the electric hotplate, microwave or toaster oven, or enjoy the propane BBQ near the front entrance.

WOODSTOVE:
The woodstove is the sole source of heat, and does a magnificent job. Free firewood is located on the patio. Feel free to cook on the woodstove using the cast-iron pans.

LAUNDRY:
The apartment-size washer & dryer located in the bathroom is perfect for small loads. Detergent is provided. The compact dryer does best with small loads.

FIREPIT:
Toss wood into the firepit located in the yard to enjoy a contained fire any time burning is allowed (per county burn rules). NOTE: Campers MUST extinguish all fires by completely soaking embers with water to ensure all potential hot spots are fully extinguished. Thank you for doing your part to prevent wildfires, much appreciated!

FOREST ACCESS:
The place offers direct access to the Bitterroot Forest. Follow the short trail behind tent #1 up to the forest road, and go either right or left to access miles of incredible scenery. Bear spray and/or gun are strongly recommended.

PETS:
Pets are welcome. For your convenience, two pet dishes are located on the patio. While pets love to sleep on the bed, the bedding is prone to holes from even well-groomed pet claws. Please use the pup sheet provided to protect the bedding if your pup likes to snuggle with you. When outside the fence, please keep your pets on a lead to avoid disturbing other campers and keep them from chasing the free-range chickens (thank you!).

WILDLIFE:
Deer, elk, bighorn sheep, marmots, and coyotes are abundant. Bear, moose, wolves, and cougars also share the forest. Please respect the wildlife and understand the inherent dangers they pose. Bear spray is highly recommended when exploring the forest.

HOT SPRINGS:
Enjoy a soak at Lost Trails Hot Springs 8 miles south for just $10.

FISHING:
Blue-ribbon trout are abundant in both the Bitterroot and Big Hole rivers. Bitterroot fishing access is available all along the Hwy 93 corridor. A community fishing pier is less than a mile south. Access to Big Hole is just a short drive away. Four miles north of Darby lies Lake Como where fishing, swimming, and other water activities are enjoyed by all who visit.

HUNTING:
This is located in district 270 next to districts 240, 250, and 321.

SKIING:
A short 16 miles to the south sits Lost Trail Ski Resort, home to 69 runs. Sitting atop the Continental Divide on Highway 93 where Montana and Idaho meet, Lost Trail boasts over 300 inches of snowfall every year for enthusiasts to enjoy.

MANAGEMENT:
Owners live on site. If you need assistance, we're happy to help.

DRIVEWAY:
The 1/2 mile dirt road up the hill includes 3 switchbacks. The road is plowed during the winter and is easily accessible in most vehicles. Four-wheel or AWD vehicles are recommended but not required. The switchbacks can accommodate horse trailers and campers up to 35 feet in length.

REFUNDS:
The cabin is located in nature and while we work hard to ensure nature stays outside, please be prepared for the possibility of nature occasionally sneaking inside. We don’t refund for bugs or critters but If you should see some during your stay, contact us immediately and we will come take care of things for you as best we can. We truly want your stay to be memorable.

ABOUT US:
Welcome! Situated on 6 acres in the southern end of the beautiful Bitterroot valley in western Montana, this was created by Lynda Cheldelin Fell and her husband Jamie as a small homestead camp they decided was too pretty not to share.

Named after Jamie's paternal family estate in England, this is a work in progress. Purchased in 2023, it started with a cozy cabin with magnificent views flanked by the national forest. In the summer of 2024, Jamie erected two 12 x 14 cabin tents, both with a stunning view of Sula Peak.

Jamie & Lynda live on site in the toy hauler/camper. Lynda’s father, a retired engineer, designed the family lodge with plans to break ground in 2026.

Parents of four and grandparents of two, Lynda is an accomplished grief and trauma educator, and author of over 40 books including the award-winning Grief Diaries anthology series. Jamie suffered a major stroke at the young age of 46, forcing him to retire from an accomplished career in commercial development.

With a love for camping coupled with Jamie's construction background, they set their hearts on creating a small homestead camp so others can experience what they enjoy every day . . . fresh air, lots of sunshine, abundant wildlife, a night sky filled with bright stars, and a relaxed way of life.

In the short time since opening in fall 2024, campers from around the world have stayed at Oxen-Le-Fields Montana, including Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, England, Sri Lanka, France, Australia, Singapore, China, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, India, Canada, Japan, Czech Republic, Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico.
