In the living/dining room, guests will find a sofa, a wood-burning fireplace, and a four-person dining table surrounded by full-wall windows on two sides of the room, providing panoramic views of the sea and the forested shores of the San Juan Islands. The fully-equipped kitchen comes with an oven, a stove, a microwave, a refrigerator, toaster, a coffeemaker, locally roasted coffee beans, and a coffee grinder.

Set right at the water's edge, the cottage provides guests with sweeping, panoramic views of the Salish Sea and the forested shores of Jones Island, San Juan Island, and Spieden Island. The views are especially spectacular at sunset, with the sun sinking below the distant island-fringed horizon directly in front of the cottage and casting myriad shades of red and orange over the vast expanse of water in between.
The surrounding sea and land are teeming with wildlife, including otters, seals, sea lions, dolphins, orcas, blue herons, eagles, loons, cormorants, seagulls, rabbits, and deer. About 11 minutes to the east, guests will find the Turtleback Mountain South Trailhead, which leads into the Turtleback Mountain Preserve. Here, guests can explore a network of trails that weave through 1,718-acres of pristine conifer forests, Garry oak woodlands, meadows, and wetlands.
For more enjoyment of the great outdoors, guests can head to Moran State Park, which lies about 35 minutes to the east. Here, they will find 38 miles of hiking trails, 11 miles of biking trails, and six miles of horseback riding trails winding through more than 5,000 acres of forests and wetlands, which are dotted with five lakes and four scenic waterfalls.
Guests will find a couple of dining options just a few minutes away in Deer Harbor, with more to be found in Eastsound, which is about 25 minutes to the northeast. In Eastsound, guests will also boutique shops, art galleries, and local outfitters such as Orcas Island Board Shops and Wildlife Cycles. At Turtleback Mountain Preserve, guests will find more than seven miles of hiking trails, some of which can be used for mountain biking and horseback riding as well. Guests will find another 38 miles of hiking trails, 11 miles of biking trails, and six miles of horseback riding trails at Moran State Park.
At the state park, guests will also find five lakes in which they can go swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, and kokanee trout. Kayak and paddleboards are available to rent directly from the park. For fishing, guests can also cast their lines into the Salish Sea right from the cottage's property.
For sea kayaking, guests can head to Doe Bay, where they can charter tours with Shearwater Kayak Tours. For whale watching, they can go on tours with Outer Island Excursions, which is based in Eastsound.
Indoor activity options include learning about the island's history at the Orcas Island Historical Museum, getting a massage at the Doy Bay Resort and Retreat, relaxing at the Rosario Resort & Spa, and visiting the boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries of Eastsound. -
