The small town of Tellico Plains, Tennessee is located in the scenic Tellico valley where the highest sections of the Appalachians give way to the still rugged Ridge and Valley region. The town is a jumping off point for the Cherohala Skyway, a scenic driving route that connects the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests and allows access to majestic and wild scenery among the forests and peaks of the Blue Ridge, a particularly impressive journey in the fall but worthwhile whatever the season. The forests themselves offer miles of hiking and biking routes, including the world-famous Appalachian Trail, and varied and spectacular wildlife ranging from bald eagles to salamanders and flying squirrels, making it an outdoors lover’s dream. Music fans will also want to check out the Dollywood theme park only an hour’s drive away in Pigeon Forge.
