This cabin is located in Wakulla County, Florida, where it overlooks the St. Marks River in a peaceful wooded setting. Running right by the retreat's screened porch, the river's clear blue-green water flows with a gentle current as it meanders its way through swampy terrain lined by cypress, magnolia, and palm trees. This rich ecosystem provides habitats for a variety of wildlife, including alligators, deer, otters, and squirrels, as well as birds such as blue herons, cormorants, and hummingbirds. At night, frogs and crickets provide a natural soundtrack to the surroundings as their serenades blend together in rhythmic harmony.
From the site, guests will enjoy easy access to the many local attractions in the area. At Wakulla Springs State Park, guests will find many outdoor recreational opportunities set amid one of the world's largest freshwater springs. At St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, they will find salt marshes full of wildlife, a historic lighthouse, and hiking trails. At Natural Bridge Battlefield Monument, they can visit the site of an important Civil War battle. Between an hour to two hours from the cabin, they can also visit a variety of beaches, such as Carrabelle Beach, Mexico Beach, and Panama City Beach.
The city of Tallahassee—the state capital of Florida—is only 25 minutes away, where guests will find many shops, restaurants, and attractions such as the Florida State Capitol, Alfred B Maclay Gardens State Park, and the Tallahassee Museum. They will find many more options for outdoor recreation at nearby Wakulla Springs State Park. They can go hiking on the Nature Trail, the Cherokee Sink Trail, and the Bob Rose Trail. On the first two of these trails and the paved park drive, guests can also go biking and there is an equestrian trail for horseback riding.
Guests can take a glass-bottom boat tour of the springs and they can go swimming and snorkeling in the fresh spring waters which adventurous guests can dive into from a 22-foot diving/observation tower. There is also a grassy beach on the bank of the Wakulla River.
