Guests can wake up in the morning, step outside, and find a full day’s worth of activities for the whole family. On the Cartecay River, guests can kayak, canoe, swim, hike along the water, or turn it into a true “lazy” river by hopping on an inner tube and floating slowly and carelessly downstream.
On the nearby Ellijay River, guests can enjoy a change of scenery as the river meanders through natural rock and boulders through the hills of Rich Mountain. The close-by Coosawattee River ends at Carters Lake where guests will find a full-service marina and boat ramps. Here, guests can rent a boat, go fishing in well-stocked waters, or stroll along the water’s edge and enjoy the beautiful lakeside scenery.
With two nearby state parks and a mountainous landscape, this area has plenty of hiking trails and natural landmarks to explore and discover. At Fort Mountain State Park, guests will find a variety of hiking trails for different skill levels. The network of paths leads hikers through valleys, around rock formations, through lush forest, around lakes, and over bridges for stunning views and unforgettable experiences. Guests can also find an ancient rock wall at the peak of one of the trails, or even explore on horseback or with a bike. At Amicalola Falls State Park, guests can hike to the Amicalola Falls and view the highest waterfall in Georgia or venture up to the peak of Springer Mountain, the terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
In downtown Ellijay, guests can shop at a variety of unique boutiques and local shops for trinkets and souvenirs or specialty items such as Himalayan salt crystals, handmade jewelry, one-of-a-kind antiques, or organic olive oils. The picturesque town square resembles an authentic marketplace with plenty to explore and with local shop owners welcoming customers to browse and linger.
After an eventful day exploring the square or visiting one of the must-see apple orchards, guests can sit down and relax in one of the cafes or grab lunch at one of the family-owned restaurants such as Corner Stone Café or the Back Porch Bistro. For a finer dining experience, guests can partake in a meal at Lee’s on River Street, which is a town favorite and features modern southern cuisine.
