So. Here we are. A little piece of land in the Albanian hills that somehow became home.
We're Merel and Frank. We live here with Tito (sheepdog, takes his job very seriously), cats Besa and Alpha (take nothing seriously), and a rooster who believes 5 AM is a perfectly reasonable time to start conversations. It's not. But he's loud, so he wins.
This isn't a resort. It's not polished. What it is: trees, quiet, space to breathe, and a bell tent that's completely yours.
Your tent sits on a wooden platform, surrounded by trees. Inside: a proper bed, soft bedding, those little things that make you go "oh, nice." Outside: your own hammock. For reading. For napping. For doing nothing at all.
You've got an outdoor shower and a private eco-toilet. Simple, works well, and yes - showering outside is pretty nice.
Hungry? The outdoor kitchen has the basics - oil, spices, coffee, tea. Or skip cooking and head to one of the local restaurants in town. Good food, cheap prices, friendly people.
Want some company? There's a common area where you'll find fellow travelers, us, or Tito hoping you'll throw a stick.
What's around here?
Hiking trails start at our doorstep. No driving needed. Just walk. Tito might join you - he knows the area better than we do.
The nature reserve near Gjinar is about 20 minutes away. Rocky paths, hidden springs, no crowds. The Church of St. Nicholas is a half hour walk through nature - and right there you'll find the local bar. Good place for a drink after your walk.
At night
Just stars. Lots of them.
One thing to know
The last bit of road is unpaved and bumpy. But that's why it's quiet here. No through traffic. Just birds and wind.
