Location + Surroundings

This eco-camp is located about 34 miles away from Calafate, very near the destination of every traveler in this part of Patagonia: the Perito Moreno Glacier. This property is located in Colonias Peninsula, within the Cerro Moreno ranch.

This is a privileged location: one margin of the peninsula borders Lake Roca, the other borders Rico Branch and right in front of this property, only 7.5 miles away, lays the Perito Moreno Glacier. Its undulated terrain shows different rocky outcrops eroded by the glacier and the changes in the lake's level. It is an ideal place to clearly view the creases of the earth's crust, differentiated by the variety of sediments that created it.

How to get to the camp: from El Calafate Airport, guests can rent a 4WD vehicle (though not required, it will help to cruise the gravel road if guests are not used to this surface) or they can contact us about transfers.

Native fauna, such as Magellanic woodpeckers, Austral parakeets and Magellan geese complete the sights. After a few kilometers’ walk, guests reach the Tree-trunk Ravine, with hundreds of trees washed down by the flooding of Rico River, some over 6.5 fthigh. Further down the trail, glampers will reach the Ice Floe Beach, with the closest views of the majestic Glacier: only 7.5 milesaway. Back to the camp, guests will walk along trails close to the Roca Lake narrows, with a view of the Cerro Moreno and NibepoAikeranches.

During the tour, guests can encounter guanacos, buffed-necked ibis, Darwin's rhea and, with any luck, a flock of condors. Upon reaching Dos Lagos ranch, the road passes through the peninsula's lowlands, where rains and thawing created lagoons.

These are ideal spots for bird watching, especially for black-necked swans, great bustards and lake ducks, among others. The final part of the trail offers great views of Cerro Buenos Aires, Moreno Glacier and Cerro Cristal.

Cerro Moreno's ranch house is only 3 milesaway from the EcoCamp. This is a truly an "endangered place" in guests immediate and global world. Don Jorge lives there. He is a rare breed of man, a combination of gaucho, mechanic, businessman and Patagonia's wild spirit.
After living countless adventures during his youth, Jorge chose to live his life in this place, free as the wind. He spends the day raising Hereford cattle, working at the ranch with his two sons: Martín and Gustavo.

Guests will have a chance to visit the ranch and working sheds and to share with these pioneers part of their everyday life. This is an experience that will live in guests' memory, either if they get to see a rodeo or if they simply visit the premises and share a "mate".
