Castle in Bornem, Flanders
6 guests • 3 bedrooms • 3 beds • 1 bathroom
Stay in an 18th-century heritage lodge on the River Scheldt in Bornem – surrounded by greenery, tranquility, and history.
Welcome to this amazing home, a unique heritage lodge in a historic domed building where you can unwind to the rhythm of the river. Built in 1797 as the summer residence of the Duke d’Ursel, this place today offers a slow and serene lodging experience for up to 6 guests – blending heritage, nature, and modern comfort.
This unique pavilion was built between 1792 and 1797 on the commission of Wolfgang-Guillaume d’Ursel and his wife Flore d’Arenberg, near the old Notelaer, where the ferryman had been carrying travelers across the Scheldt for centuries.
The duke and his wife immediately fell in love with this place and commissioned the renowned French architect Charles de Wailly to build their summer pavilion here.
The elegant domed building was once a beloved venue for hunts, parties, and gatherings of the nobility. Its grandeur also caught the eye of the creators of the prestigious Eén series “Stille Waters” (Silent Waters), who used the pavilion as the residence of one of the main characters.
Since 2017, Kempens Landschap Foundation, together with the municipality of Bornem, has managed the building and the park. In 2025, the pavilion was thoroughly restored and repurposed as this enchanting heritage lodge.
Staying here means experiencing the splendor and elegance of the past while enjoying today’s comfort.
The house accommodates up to 6 people and features 3 atmospherically furnished bedrooms and 1 luxurious bathroom with a sauna designed for pure relaxation.
Enjoy cozy cooking and aperitifs in the fully equipped kitchen. Dine in style with your company in the authentic dining room.
Dream away in the stunning round parquet hall with its fantastic view of the Scheldt, or completely relax in the atmospheric living room.
From April through October, you can enjoy an afternoon drink on the publicly accessible garden terrace of VZW De Notelaer at the front of the Pavilion. Guests have their own private terrace with garden tables on the riverside of the Pavilion. The VZW is active on the estate and organizes exhibitions, among other activities.
In short, staying at this home means taking time for family and friends in complete peace and comfort. This environment lets you escape the hustle and bustle and slow down to the rhythm of the river — the Silent Waters of the Scheldt.
Guests have access to the entire holiday home.
