Scenic views
The lake is popular among boaters, water sports enthusiasts, and fishers alike, with largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, and lake trout darting about its waters. To the south, the lake tapers into the Atherley Narrows, where it connects to the larger Lake Simcoe, which, in turn, connects to the Trent-Severn Waterway.
To the north, guests will find Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park, which encompasses 82,793 acres of wilderness. A 65-kilometer section of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail runs through the park, winding past forests, wetlands, small lakes, rivers, streams, and bare bedrock plains and uplands, which form rugged cliffs, gorges, and rock ridges. Along the way, guests may encounter beavers, moose, and black bears.
To the southwest, guests will find Scout Valley—a 299-acre park that used to be a Scout camp. Here, guests can enjoy three two-kilometer loop trails that wind their way through wetlands, white pines, creeks, hills, and hardwood bush.
In and around downtown Orillia, guests will find a variety of restaurants, shops, golf courses, as well as attractions such as the Orillia Museum of Art and History, the Orillia Opera House Theatre, and the Leacock Museum and National Historic Site, which was the lakeside retreat of the once world-famous writer, political scientist, and humorist Stephen Leacock.
Other attractions in the area include the Casino Rama Resort, which is only about five minutes to the north, and the Mount St. Louis Moonstone ski resort, which is about 40 minutes to the west. The resort is about two hours from Toronto, where the nearest international airport is located.
