Enchanting Hobbit House in the Glades of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve

Hobbit House in South Frontenac, Ontario
2 guests • 1 bedroom • 1 bed • 0 bathrooms
Cordwood cabin with a natural living roof overlooking a glade in the forest. Private, cozy, and wonderfully quiet. It's a fairy tale place for adults! With its table for two, hexagonal window looking out onto the pines, tiny woodstove that belts out the heat, and whimsical window seat that becomes a bed at night, this cabin has everything you need to be warm and comfortable.
The Space
The Hobbit House is exquisitely primitive. There is no electricity but there are plenty of candles, oil lamps, and lanterns for light. There is no running water but there is a chamber pot and nearby thunder box outside to do your business, and we provide a jug of fresh potable water for drinking.
It’s a bit like elegant indoor camping. This spacious cabin has a futon that turns into a double bed, a table that can be used for eating or playing cards, and a wood stove with plenty of firewood that heats the space even on the coldest of nights.
There is minimal but adequate cooking equipment—butane burner, pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs, cutlery, cooking utensils, can opener, bottle opener, kettle, and even a french press for your morning cup of coffee!
Pack as if you were camping, except you can leave your dishes and linens at home! There are no roads to the cabin so you should be prepared to hike with your belongings from the parking lot over some rough terrain, approximately 20 minutes. We provide fresh sheets, a warm bamboo duvet, plenty of pillows, and an extra blanket for good measure.
Note: There is limited cell service and no Wi-Fi. You will be given emergency access to the main lodge, which has power, Wi-Fi, and a landline.
Staff Interaction
We are available by phone or text but will likely not be on the property during your stay. Bookings are self check-in/out. A detailed reminder will be emailed to you one week prior to your stay.
The Neighbourhood
We are located in a 204-acre wilderness setting, in the heart of the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve. We are nearest the village of Westport, which is approximately 17 km northeast. There you can buy groceries at Kudrinko’s, wine at the Scheuermann Winery, beer at the Westport Brewing Company or The Beer Store, spirits at the local LCBO, or grab some ice cream at Vanilla Bean’s Café & Creamery.
