Quito

Many of the towns and cities in Ecuador are unique due to their being surrounded by the Amazon jungle. However, Quito stands a step above all of them. Based high in the Andes Mountains, the city of Quito is one of Ecuador’s prized historic towns. Aside from its location being perfect for outdoor buffs, Quito is also the world’s first UNESCO world heritage city, making it more than just a pit stop before the Andes. There are more than 200 churches, convents, and monasteries in the city, and also a unique city culture you’ll experience through their restaurants and cafes. Of course, you’re probably there for the outdoors, so step outside and visit the Mindo Cloud Forest. It’s home to a ridiculous landscape filled with dramatic gorges, scenic bridges, lush ravines, and more of what makes Ecuador’s jungles so unique.
