Visit Enchanted Rock State Park, Texas
About 20 miles north of Fredericksburg, Texas is Enchanted Rock. A pink granite mountain located in the Llano Uplift, Enchanted Rock, TX covers about 640 acres and rises almost 430 feet, to an elevation of 1,825 feet above sea level. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, which includes Enchanted Rock, spans the borders between Gillespie County and Llano county, just south of the Llano River. This natural area is part of the Texas state park system, and covers 1,644 acres and was designated as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1971. Since then, Enchanted Rock, Texas has attracted about 275,000 people a year, who come for a bit of adventure. Conveniently located in Texas Hill Country, the park is easily accessible and perfect for a day trip. Really, people have been coming to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area for centuries and to this day it continues to be one of the most popular things to do in Fredericksburg & TX Hill Country. It has plenty of park camping, picnic spots, almost 9 miles of hiking trails, wildlife, climbing, plus there are often interpretive exhibits and a park store for anyone looking to take home a souvenir. The park is open seven days a week all year, except for public hunting, which occurs several times in the fall and winter months. You can go online or call and make a reservation for a "save the day pass" up to 30 days before your arrival date to ensure your entry to the park. Enchanted Rock reservations are recommended, as the park closes once it is at capacity. Admission is $8 per person, while children 12 and under are free. Things to do at Enchanted Rock
There are so many amazing things to do in Enchanted Rock, it’s no wonder it’s always on the list of top things to do in Fredericksburg, Texas. Rock climbers must check-in at park headquarters and sign the climbing release, but after that, there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out and get climbing. Popular climbing routes in the area include Jack Knife, Cave Crack, Sweat, Middle Crack, and Owl Crack. Hiking is another great way to explore the park terrain. With almost 9 miles of trails, hiking the park is a totally doable feat and a great way to get some exercise. Pick from trails like Echo Canyon Trail, Walnut Springs Trail, Moss Lake Trail, Summit Trail, Base Trail, and more! Please note that all trails close at sunset, except the Loop Trail, and pets are no longer allowed on the Summit Trail. To protect this natural area, pets are only allowed in the designated day-use picnic areas, the campgrounds, and on the Loop Trail.
