Redfield

Redfield is a small town which rests on the shores of the Salmon River Reservoir, in the heart of a sprawling wilderness which encompasses a range of state forests and parks. It is the perfect place to start your exploration of the New York landscape, especially as it lies so close to the colossal shores of the iconic Lake Ontario. Hike around the edge of the reservoir when you visit Hall Island State Forest, where tree-lined trails follow the water’s edge, and you can even go fishing here at many points in the year. A short drive away is the Lesser Wilderness State Forest, which has more challenging trails to follow, and close to this lies the Independence River Wild Forest. Here, you can catch some of the best views of the Adirondack Mountains.
