Visit Vermont: house in the trees for a unique camping trip in New England

Located near Lake Saint Catherine, Vermont, this uniquely crafted tree house rental is a unique and rustic escape. Inside, guests will find a double bed on the first level and three single beds on the second level. The windows come screened and each bed has a mosquito net in case it is needed.

A walk away from the tree house and guests will have a covered pavilion with running water, a sink, a gas stove, and a refrigerator. Guests will also have a complete set of cooking utensils, as well as a large table for dining. Furthermore, guests will have a natural fire pit to enjoy, as well as a lovely outdoor shower.

Everybody loves the idea of a tree house. There is something freeing, natural and connective to our childhood in the idea. Feel the gentle movement of the structure as it sighs with the wind. Imagine a life off of the ground, even if only for a weekend. Guests will enjoy the rich sounds of the woods as it becomes their own living room.

This creation is organic in its feel and design, with living trees intermingling with the structure inside and out. Made from all local materials or reclaimed elements, it seems out of time as though guests have taken a turn and found themselves in the pages of a storybook.

This tree house practically disappears in the woods like the particularly enchanting song of the namesake bird. Guests can perch on the first or second-floor porch and listen to the living woods. The windows have screens and each bed has a mosquito net in case it is needed. There is even a composting toilet right in the tree house for guests' convenience.

The covered pavilion, a few meters away, has water, a sink, gas stove, refrigerator, complete set of cooking/eating utensils, and there is a large table to eat or converse over. There is a natural fire pit to enjoy as guests watch the sun set in the West. An outside shower completes the picture.

Guests should keep in mind that this tree house is an artistic and rustic structure, designed to give a feeling of freedom and organic interaction with its surroundings. Due to these ideals, some safety considerations are not present or reduced. For example, railing heights and spacings are irregular, stair treads and rises are irregular, ladders to bunk beds are free-form, the terrain is uneven and steep, hammocks are over uneven and hard surfaces, as well as other considerations not mentioned here. The tree house is not recommended for very young children requiring supervision. All guests will be required to sign a waiver of liability upon arrival in order to stay.

The woods in which the tree house resides is a somewhat fragile environment with beautiful mosses, trillium, and jack in the pulpit flowers, so dogs are not permitted since they tend to dig or will feel compelled to chase the multitude of squirrels and chipmunks in the woods which will trample the surroundings. But, feel free to make the case that a particular pet is an old timer that is no longer interested in chasing anything and the idea of digging seems too much like work, and the host might be swayed. In such cases, there is a $25 pet fee.

This tree house is available only for dates between June 15 and Sept. 15.

The inside of this Vermont house in the trees is basically the sleeping quarters; all cooking and eating activities are supported in the nearby pavilion which has a four-burner gas stove/oven, full-size refrigerator/freezer, running water (hot and cold) at the sink, as well as a separate pure spring water faucet. Cupboards hold a variety of pots, pans, utensils, etc. There is electricity and a large dining table. Outside the pavilion is a propane barbecue grill and a fire pit with firewood. There is also a composting toilet near the pavilion.

This tree house is only available between June 1 and October 20. There are two treehouses, one is insulated with heat and holds 5 and the other is not insulated and holds 6. During the warmer months both treehouses can be used, but the beginning and end of the season will be limited to 5 guests.

In this current time of concern over the Covid-19 coronavirus, the host would like to assure all upcoming and future guests that every effort is taken to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire treehouse and cooking/eating pavilion between guests. Also that the treehouse is private and located away from other people in a township with a small population.
