Sitting on the upper part of the Tallapoosa River, Lake Wedowee was built at one of Alabama’s last hydro sites and is an excellent place for anybody who loves water sports, as the lake is now 43,000 hectares in size. Come here for swimming, boating, and water skiing in the crystal-clear waters. The fishing is also top-notch, with a large bass and crappie population and plenty of space for any fisherman as the lake rarely, if ever, gets crowded. Flat Rock Park at the west end of the lake is a great swimming spot, as well as the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon picnic. And all of this is a mere 90 miles from Atlanta or Birmingham - so that you can enjoy the best of the outdoors without having to travel too far.
