Amambay

Named after a special fern grown in the region, Amambay is a department in Paraguay with some interesting attractions. For those looking to get a taste of nature and guilty pleasures, visiting Pedro Juan Caballero might not be a bad idea. After all, it’s home to a casino, a waterpark, and it offers plenty of ecotourism adventures. Then there’s Cerro Cora National Park. Established only recently in 1976, the park offers historic monuments and hill caves with petroglyphs. It speaks volume that the entire region of Amambay belongs to the Ecological Region of Amambay, and much of its fauna and flora are protected, including endangered species like the local palm tree, karanday, array and local cedars.
