Canelones

Based in the south of Uruguay, the department of Canelones is home to flatlands, small coastal enclaves, woodlands in its northern parts. There are many waterways in the region, with rivers and streams like Santa Lucia River and the Rio de la Plata standing out. These locations are actually bodies of salt water. Head to Rio de la Plata, and you’ll find a number of spa towns and respective beaches. There are also several islands in this region, including Oyarvide Island and the Solis Islands that are based in Argentine waters. Wildlife wise, the region of Canelones is home to loggerhead sea turtle, green sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle, and the rare La Plata Dolphin. If you’re a nature lover, Canelones might not be a bad idea this coming getaway.
