Location + Surroundings
This lodge is located in Whanganui National Park, New Zealand, and is situated on the banks of the impressive Whanganui River, which snakes elegantly through the Manawatu-Wanganui region of the North Island. The property itself is only reachable by jet boat, canoe, foot, or by helicopter, so it's no wonder why seclusion is so highly rated here.
The journey to the national park begins from the major town of Whanganui, which hugs the South Taranaki Bight and features several golf courses, classy urban parks, and fascinating museums. From there, the road heads north and runs parallel to the river, passing through such tiny communities as Matahiwi and Jerusalem, finally reaching Pipiriki around an hour and a half later.
A possible day trip from the lodge could be the world-renowned Tongariro National Park, which features the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing and is one of the most spectacular protected areas of New Zealand. For guests arriving by plane, Whanganui Airport has a connection to Auckland, but otherwise, the options is Wellington International Airport, which is the closest transport hub capable of overseas travel and is approximately 300km away. The main attraction here is the mighty Whanganui River, where guests can go canoeing on and discover areas of the national park untouched by civilization, or, in the spirit of adrenaline-fueled adventure, go jet boating. Guests should be aware that all tours leave from Pipiriki.
There are also a wide array of mountain biking trails that guests can venture through, and of course, hikers will also be greatly satisfied by the range of scenic paths they can explore. One popular activity must wait until the cover of darkness - glow worms live in the area and are a spectacular sight once the sun has set and their illuminating skills are on full display.
