Gisborne

There are many places in North Island that do justice to its Maori culture, and Gisborne is certainly one you won’t regret visiting. It’s home to preserved Maori traditions and Girborne Museum, where you’ll learn about North Island’s colonial history and indigenous heritage. Visit Te Poho-o-Rawiri and check out traditional woodcarvings and artisanal items dedicated to Maori traditions. Gisborne is also known for its wine trails that take you through boutiques and wineries, leaving you fit with unique Maori items and a tad bit tipsy. Outdoor buffs should visit Eastwoodhill Arboretum, a natural reserve with many diverse trees and scenic walking trails. You can’t visit North Island and not indulge in Maori culture, so why not start in the city of Gisborne?
