Horopito

Located strategically between Ohakune and National Park Village, Horopito is a great pit stop if you’re looking for something a bit quirky. That’s because it’s home to the only vintage car dismantler in the country. As such, you’ll find plenty of cars from the 1920’s to the 1970’s and even World War I cars. Horopito is also home to Ohakune Old Coach Road Cycle, a walking and biking trail that takes you through a beautiful alpine valley on a wooden bridge that twists and turns like a snake. The region is quite charming, hosting some of the prettiest sunsets and sunrises over Mt. Ruapehu. It’s also near Tongariro National Park, making Horopito an ideal location for a night stay before hitting bigger attractions like National Park Village.
