This off-the-grid cabin rental is located near Masterton, North Island, and can accommodate two guests for a distraction-free getaway to the peaceful countryside of Admiral Hill. The cabin is furnished with a comfortable queen-size bed that is surrounded by all-wood surfaces and a double glass door. Lighting is provided by LED lights or candles. Linens and towels are provided.

Outside, guests will find a pair of chairs, a bathroom hut, and a kitchen hut. The bathroom contains a flushing toilet, a sink, and a bathtub with hot and cold water. The kitchen is equipped with a barbecue grill, a small burner, and a set of cups, plates, and utensils.

The cabin is surrounded by 2,500 acres of farmland set in a vast countryside that guests can explore on foot or by horseback, with a variety of horseback riding treks available through the host.

Along with the main sleeping cabin, guests will find an outdoor kitchen hut and a bathroom hut. The kitchen is equipped with a barbecue, a small burner, kettle as well as cups, plates, and utensils. The bathroom contains a flushing toilet, sink and a bathtub with hot and cold water. All guests have to do is open the double doors, and they can enjoy a bath with a glass of local wine perhaps, looking out over the stunning views.

All facilities are private, with clients enjoying the whole site to themselves.

A variety of horse treks are available through the host, including a beginner-level and intermediate-level one-hour trek, a two-hour trek, a three-hour trek, and a full-day (five-hour) trek. The latter of which includes lunch.

Location + Surroundings

Located on Admiral Hil in the Gladstone area of the Wairarapa Region on New Zealand's North Island. The hut is set on a large working farm that raises sheep and cows. With 2,500 acres of hill country to explore and no cell phone reception or even electricity to tempt guests into distraction, the cabin provides guests with an ideal opportunity to unplug, both literally and figuratively speaking.

The host also runs horse treks; guests who wish to go on one will find the point of departure just five minutes down the road. Exploring the surrounding countryside on foot or horseback, guests will encounter the peacefully flowing waters of the Wainuioru River, verdant copses of trees, and a seemingly endless expanse of hills rolling off into the distance.

The cabin is about 35 minutes southeast of Masterton, where guests will find a variety of shops and restaurants, along with attractions such as Queen Elizabeth Park, Henley lake, and Lansdowne Golf Course. The Wairarapa region is well known for its wineries and boutique shopping in Martinborough and Greytown, both just a 40-minute drive away. The cabin is about two hours from Wellington, where the nearest international airport is located.

The host of the cabin offers a variety of horse treks in the surrounding countryside, ranging from a peaceful one-hour ride along the Wainuioru River to a more demanding full-day trek that includes lunch. Guests can also explore the 2,500-acre property and its bucolic surroundings by foot free of charge.

In Masterton, guests can visit Queen Elizabeth Park and the adjacent Henley Lake where guests will find a lake for kayaking and canoeing, a miniature golf course, a variety of birds to spot, and trails for walking, jogging, and cycling. Guests can also visit the Aratoi Wairarapa Museum of Art and History and go golfing at the Lansdowne Golf Course.

In Opaki, which just a few miles to the north of Masterton, guests can enjoy wine tasting at the Taste Opaki Cycle Trail and Cellar Door, the Loopline Vineyard, and the Paper Road Winery and Bistro.

Martinborough, in the south of the Wairarapa Region, is well known for it wines and has many restaurants and vineyards to enjoy, as well as some great boutique shops.
