Waikanae

Visit the small town of Waikanae; the town is based on the Kapiti Coast, as such, offering miles and miles of luscious sands and waves. Just outside the town is a three-mile-long beach that sits across from Kapiti Island. You can catch a ferry to the island and explore its very own nature reserve. There awaits a bird sanctuary home to rare birds such as kākā, kōkako, takahē, and hihi. There are also hiking trails on the reserve that will take you through deep forest and up a summit for panoramic views of the island. Although you need a tour guide to access the bird paradise, it’s certainly worth the visit. After all, you’ll catch glimpses of all the beautiful birds that New Zealand holds so dearly.
