This lodge sits at the entrance of Montecristo Private Natural Reserve and Wildlife Refuge, 43 Km down the river from San Carlos, Rio San Juan, Nicaragua, between the jungle river port town of Boca de Sabalos and the historic town of El Castillo. From here you can spend your time discovering the history of Rio San Juan, El Castillo, the Solentiname island, as well a the Indio-Maiz Biological National Reserve.
With over 120 acres of gardens, and small organic plantations of cacao, coffee, fruits and vanilla, you’ll never be bored of walking around and being immersed in the beautiful nature that surrounds you. There are more than 8.5 kilometers of trails and 42 hectares of primary rain forest. The region is within the Southern Central American Pacific Slope Endemic Bird Area, which has 16 restricted-range species. The forest also holds a great amount of exotic and endemic plants and insects that provide valuable information to the scientific and medical research communities.

Activities offered include hiking, jungle river adventure, kayak/canoes, sport fishing packages, birding, and horseback riding. All local tours are available, just ask. Practice Eco tourism walking in a series of trails or hiking through primary rain forest, secondary growth and open land where you can see monkeys, toucans and parrots in their natural habitat and wild flowers of all kinds! This area offers a wide variety of habitats to explore. A nocturnal walk is also available.
