Cajamarca

Based high in the Andes, the city of Cajamarca is home to a rich history, and you’ll see it especially in the form of its architecture. A visit to the city’s main square reveals one of the city’s well-preserved structures: The Cajamarca Cathedral. Those looking to hit Cajamarca's outdoors can enjoy a bit of history as well by visiting Cumbe Mayo. Based 11,000 feet above sea level, Cumbe Mayo was built by an advanced society that preceded the Inca. It’s thought to be one of the oldest man-made structures in South America. For pretty sights of Cajamarca, hike to the top of Santa Apolonia Hill. There, you’ll find a place of worship and a viewpoint that shows the city from atop 8,500 feet.
