Pasco
A region in central Peru, Pasco is home to high jungle ecosystems and its capital city based near the Andes Mountains. Pasco’s ecosystems contrast strongly; you’ll hike through mountains and enter jungles, only to end up near lagoons or rock formations of sorts. That’s precisely what makes Pasco’s region so interesting; you can enjoy hiking trips along some of the most diverse sceneries all in one day. Pasco is also home to a vibrant selection of towns, including Huancabamba, Oxapampa, Pozuzo, and Villa Rica—all places originally inhabited by Austrian-German settlers who eventually integrated with the indigenous communities. Be sure to visit these towns and indulge in their unique customs; they’re one of few places in Peru where you can encounter both European and South American culture meshed into one. As such, expect one unique adventure in the region of Pasco.
