Puno

Based in the Andean mountains, the Puno region is home to a string of artificial and natural islands, rich Incas history, and Lake Titicaca—a body of water glittering with crisp beauty. There are many archeological sites worth visiting, including Kutimpu and Sillustani and its burial ground with cylindrical tombs. Near Puno is Reserva Nacional Titicaca. The natural reserve is home to quaint lakeside villages and unique boats used to travel around them. By immersing yourself with the natives here, you’ll get a real look at what makes Peru so unique. The locals in the region of Puno are quite proud of their Quechua and Aymara heritage, hosting dances and rituals to show their devotion. If you’re lucky, you might be witness to such an event.
