This cottage was originally built as a log cabin before the Civil War, and the property itself is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located three miles southeast of Front Royal, Virginia, and is situated mere steps away from the world-renowned Appalachian Trail, which passes through the nearby wine country just to the north and the inimitable Shenandoah National Park just to the south. Local tourist attraction Skyline Caverns features plenty of impressive geological formations, while the town of Front Royal offers history and antiquing, great restaurants, micro-brewery, meadery and cidery, and ice cream, the Virginia Beer Museum, and a very welcoming Visitors Center. Guests can swim at the local 4-H Center or take in a game at the Bing Crosby Stadium.
The Skyline Drive begins at the southern edge of Front Royal and proceeds to snake through increasingly-impressive territory, with vistas and lookouts, affording spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west and quaint farm country to the east. A variety of hiking trails are within easy access both inside and outside the park with overlooks, waterfalls, a swimming hole, or an old farmstead as your destination. Also noteworthy is the Shenandoah River, for canoeing, kayaking and rafting, and the nearby State Park of the same name, offering water sports, picnicking and a canopy tour with a zip-line, all less than 20 minutes away.
The property is situated advantageously close to Washington Dulles International Airport, which is less than 60 miles away and features an abundance of crucial domestic and international connections. Guests can also take the Virginia Breeze bus from Washington, DC or Dulles, or points south to Front Royal, and we'll pick up and drop off at the local bus station.Activities near Front Royal

Those after a more adventurous holiday will certainly find it inside Shenandoah National Park, one of America's richest natural spaces, including 100 miles of the world renown Appalachian Trail and amazing views of the Shenandoah Valley from Skyline Drive. For a change of pace, tackle the canopy tour ropes course and zip line at Shenandoah State Park, or kayak/canoe/raft down the winding Shenandoah River. Guests can visit the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center, only a few miles along Skyline Drive inside the park, to find out more about what there is to discover and experience inside Shenandoah National Park, of the Front Royal Visitors Center in the historical center of town.

Additional info
Dogs are welcome, but NOT other types of pets.
If you plan to bring a dog, we need you to point that out in a GlampingHub message you send to us when you submit your request. The Cabbin is not a big place, and we only allow 1 dog per night. We may allow 2 or 3 dogs from the same family, if they all live together and get along well. We have a few dog-related rules to make sure everyone's stay goes smoothly. There is an additional $15/dog/night fee for dogs, collected via GlampingHub.
Dog rules:
Your dog must be friendly with other people.
Please:
- Pick up after your pet and put used poop bags outside the porch,
- Wipe paws, and get mud off fur, with dog towels on porch, before dog enters Cabbin,
- Never leave your dog in the Cabbin without its owner (unless your dog is used to being crated and will be staying in the crate you bring),
- Do not allow your dog on the furniture, and
- Have your dog on leash when outside (due to nearby road and potential wildlife).
We do have a small kennel with a dog house, that can be used to safely contain your dog for an hour or 2 during the day when you need to go in to town. Do not plan to leave your pup there in bad weather or at night. We want your pet to have a good visit, too, and are happy to provide a dog bed and water bowl for use in the Cabbin. Front Royal is generally very dog friendly!
No animals are allowed in the Main House, just in the "Cabbin".
This is an historic home that has just been rehabilitated. We expect our guests to treat our home with respect and loving care - leaving dirty boots and shoes just inside the door, using coasters for drinks, turning off the lights when they aren't there, keeping feet off the furniture, etc., the usual stuff.
