Beautiful Tipis and Horseback Riding at Scenic Ranch in Wyoming

Tipi in Big Piney, WY

1 guest

The tipis are all 10' x 10, made of 10 oz. marine grade waterproof canvas. Each tipi is set up to accommodate one person per unit, though they are big enough for two people to share. Each unit is outfitted with a cot, a quality foam mattress and a good sleeping bag rated to 0 degrees.

The tipis are placed on a campsite along the Little Sandy River and it is definitely not your standard, "cookie cutter" version of the typical dude ranch. For those who are looking for a place that is closer to the Earth and more in tune to the rhythms of nature, yet offers everything necessary to be comfortable and secure, this camp setting is the perfect home away from home. Think of the soothing melody of running water over smooth stones, with the harmony of a summer breeze through tall lodgepole pines to lull you off to sleep. The quiet of your own canvas tipi tent and a warm sleeping bag on a comfy mattress are better than the best king sized bed in a luxury resort for restful sleep. The privacy and peace of the location enhances the full experience.

Every individual guest is set up in their own tent, with larger tents available for couples or those who want to share. In addition, there is a private shower tent with solar-heated showers ready to use after getting in from the day's ride, or the river right beside your tent may beckon you to take a dip in the crystal clear water for a cool soak, and to wash off the dust of the trail.

The price for this glamping experience is $2,400 per person and up, depending on the itinerary you choose.

Scenic views
This camp is located in wide-open, unfenced country, where 100-mile vistas and active riding are just some of the features of horseback riding in Wyoming. Every week is a very hands-on experience of free-spirited horsemanship, with no fences and no "nose to tail" trail riding. Here you will be able to ride good horses, have a lot of fun, and no one ever leaves thinking they haven't had enough time in the saddle! For over 15 years, avid horsewomen and horsemen have been coming out to these adult horse camps to experience for themselves the thrill and the unique opportunity to ride freely across the open range, many of them returning year after year.

Several features set this horseback adventure vacation apart from the typical guest ranch or pack trip. The number of riders on each of these riding horseback vacations is limited to 6-8 riders, which makes for a more personal experience and is the reason the site can offer you a safe, active ride across wide-open spaces. You can travel by yourself and still enjoy an adventure. Folks are mixed from all over the world, allowing a very personable and fun trip of horseback riding in Wyoming.

Though the camp is definitely not a dude ranch with cabins or a bunkhouse, the personal canvas range tipis(each person has their own) are nestled snugly amongst the pine trees with the soft hum of the river right out the front door, and a hot shower is just a step away. Wonderful meals are prepared every day right at the cookhouse, and tasty snacks are presented at the afternoon cocktail hour, after the day's ride and before dinner. These are adult horse camps, so there is a minimum age of 16 years old.

Here you will find a unique, active experience of horseback riding in Wyoming, in addition to new knowledge and respect for horses and riding. The entire experience will be fun, relaxing, challenging and maybe even spiritually moving for you. You’re invited to "pull your cinch, catch a stirrup and ride" across the wide-open spaces of Wyoming.

Additional info

Another feature of this camp that guests have popularized are the meals that the various dutch oven camp chefs have prepared over the years. The cookhouse and those who work within produce the fabulous meals that have become a tradition. The menu features organic grass-fed buffalo and includes wild Alaska salmon, grilled chicken, crisp salads, fresh fruits, natural cereals and yogurt, vegetables, pasta, homemade biscuits and breads, and, if you still have room, desserts made from scratch. The dutch oven camp cooks are all experienced with preparing a variety of specialty hors de' oeuvres as well, to accompany the BYOB daily cocktail hour after the horses are put up from a good day's ride.

Prices listed are for the Five Day Getaway package offered by the ranch. Different packages are available such as Girls Ride Out! All Women Horseback Adventures, Guys Ride Too! Horse Camp for Men & Women, Fall Color Ride, and Summer Wildflower Tour.
