In the heart of the Berkshires, this retreat is conveniently located between Stockbridge and Great Barrington. This is the most unique property located on the bank of Rising Pond of the Housatonic River! Guests will enjoy spectacular views from the deck and picture window of this upstairs artist’s aerie, filled with original art by local artists.
Built in 1860, the getaway has been updated and outfitted for modern-day convenience but retains its charm and unique appeal. The only property located on the banks of Rising Pond, it offers spectacular views of fall foliage, wildlife, and catch-and-release fishing from the deck. Guests have easy access from the bank of the property for small boating and sculling.
Located in the heart of the Berkshires, Tanglewood, Shakespeare and Co., the Rockwell Museum, Chesterfield, summer stock theatre, music, and dance are all just minutes away. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with all cooking utensils and serving dishes make eating on the deck and entertaining a delight. Guests will be walking distance to Berkshire Mountain Bakery for delicious French pastries, bread, and take away pizza! Taft Organic Farms is right down the road just a mile away. The local loop bus stops right outside the door.
The open floor plan and lovely views make this efficient upstairs apartment seem much larger than its 700 square feet. The two private bedrooms include twin beds (that can be made into a king) in the first and a queen-size bed in the second. The large bathroom features an antique full-size claw-foot bathtub with a shower. The complete kitchen comes with full-size appliances and all cooking and serving utensils. The TV has basic cable with local network stations and there is strong WI-FI internet. Full laundry facilities are available.
This is a completely private two-bedroom upstairs apartment in a two-floor duplex. Guests have total access to all of the grounds along the river, a charcoal grill (in the warmer months), and two parking spaces on the property. The retreat is located directly on the river bank and near a road. Small children must be supervised at all times when outdoors.
There are steep stairs up to the apartment and a beautiful tall claw foot tub so this property may not be a good fit for someone with mobility concerns. It is not wheelchair-accessible.
If the hosts are unavailable, their wonderful mother-in-law can greet guests with the key and be available for any questions or needs they might have during their stay. Alternatively, they can arrange for guests to let themselves in independently if they will be arriving late or at an odd time.
If guests are lucky, the host's brother-in-law's band will be practicing in the music shed certain evenings during the week and they will be treated to wonderful live music during their stay. Guests are welcome to join and enter the music shed and listen with a glass of wine!
In the winter, Ski Butternut is a popular resort for all ski and snowboard enthusiasts. During the warmer months, guests can check out a number of concerts and festivals happening at the resort, including Berkshires Arts Festival. Exploring the center of Great Barrington is also a must for glampers interested in the local theater, museum, and restaurant scenes.
