This unique center is only part of the experience of the Big Island, and glampers will find incredible activities available here. Akaka Falls State Park has a beautiful short hike which takes glampers through a luscious rainforest, and Hawaii's most famous waterfall, Akaka Falls. Downstream from here is the Akaka Falls Skyline Tour which offers a 7-line course with a birdseye view of the amazing forest and dramatic glimpses of the ocean. Glampers can enjoy spectacular views from the top of Mauna Kea Volcano, the tallest mountain in the world from sea level. There are amazing beaches too, like Punalu’u Beach (Turtle Beach) and Papakolea (Green Sand Beach). Turtle Beach is famous for its black sands, swimming, snorkeling, coastal hikes, picnics, and of course turtle spotting! Papakolea is one of only four green sand beaches in the world. Ahalanui Hot Pond allows guests to swim with beautiful tropical fish, and features a picnic area, showers, toilet facilities and a lifeguard on duty daily. There are farmer's markets to try out traditional Hawaiian fare on Wednesdays and Sundays in Uncle Robert’s in lower Puna, and Maku’u Farmer's Market respectively.

Additional info

Drugs, alcohol and smoking are prohibited on the property.

The accommodation is open to the elements with beautiful views but is screened in to keep mosquitoes and bugs out. The screens do not keep geckos out, but they are harmless. To avoid gecko droppings, the host puts a painting drop cloth over all beds to maintain cleanliness of bedding and towels until the guest's arrival. This is typically placed under the bed while guests are staying, allowing guests to cover the bed while they are out during the day.
