Adventures and sports
There is a wide range of activities in the surrounding area. The Kilauea Volcano is an active volcano located very close to the property. It is especially impressive at dusk or after dark. During the day, the center of the volcano appears as grey smoke. However, after dark, it will appear bright red, with lava jumping and spraying up. There are many aerial tours offered that take guests up in a helicopter and light aircraft and provide a beautiful view of the volcano, national parks, and picturesque coast. The Mauna Loa hiking trail offers three trails, two of which take more than a day, and they all start at 11,000 feet above sea level! They are not for the faint-hearted; hikers will be walking on solidified lava! Volcano has its own winery, which offers both tours and tasting. The Akatsuka Orchid Gardens is renowned for its beautiful range of orchids, gift shop, and knowledgable staff.
