Location + Surroundings
Nestled among the San Bernardino Mountains, this cabin site is located 7,200 feet above sea level in Green Valley Lake, California, where it is set by the scenic, pine tree-dotted shores of the lake after which the village is named. The lake is one of the hidden gems of Southern California; situated about halfway between the more well-known Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake, it provides guests with a quieter, less frequented getaway spot, while also boasting a comparable range of recreational opportunities.
Here, guests can swim, fish, boat, hike, and enjoy water sports to their heart's content. The lake is also a prime spot for birdwatching, with an abundance of birdlife calling it home for part or all of the year, including mountain chickadees, dark-eyed juncos, western bluebirds, and a variety of woodpeckers. In the alpine meadows through which the nearby hiking and biking trails wind their way, guests will also find a profusion of wildflowers, such as corn lilies and rein orchids.
The lake is set deep inside Sand Bernardino National Forest, which encompasses more than 800,000 acres of natural beauty. Exploring the national forest, guests will find a rich diversity of landscapes, geological features, and ecosystems, ranging from rugged mountains, semi-deserts, and hot springs to conifer forests, oak woodlands, and pinyon-juniper stands. These environments, in turn, provide habitats to an equally rich diversity of wildlife, including bighorn sheep, bald eagles, and peregrine falcons. Altogether, the forest is home to 71 threatened or endangered wildlife species and 85 sensitive plant species.
Other attractions in the area include Snow Valley Mountain Ski and Snowboard Resort, which is just 16 minutes to the southeast. In the small downtown area of Green Valley Lake, guests will find a market, two restaurants, and a bait and tackle shop. For more options, guests can head to nearby Running Springs and Arrowbear. While the lake feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, it is just 45 minutes from San Bernardino, where guests will find the nearest international airport. Read More
