Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve
6 miles straight-line distance9 kilometers straight-line distanceThis accommodation is located at a bed and breakfast in Oak Harbor, Washington, where it is situated on a bucolic horse farm in the countryside of Whidbey Island. Exploring the picturesque grounds of the farm's 80-acre estate, guests will find lush pastures bordered by rustic wooden fences, a lovely orchard, 25 acres of wooded trails, pastoral roads, and a peaceful pond. Along the way, they may see some of the more than 50 horses that graze in the fields, the deer that browse through the woods, and the loons, king fishers, egrets, and bald eagles that feed on the fingerlings and carp that live in the pond.
With plenty of outdoor activities and natural sceneries to enjoy right on the farm, the bed and breakfast is a self-contained destination onto itself. At the same time, it provides guests with a base camp from which to explore the many state parks and nature reserves that dot Whidbey Island. These include Deception Pass State Park, Fort Casey State Park, Fort Ebey State Park, Joseph Whidbey State Park, Possession Point State Park, South Whidbey Island State Park, the Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve, and the Earth Sanctuary nature reserve. From the 4,134 acres of coves, cliffs, forests, trails, and both saltwater and freshwater shorelines that make up Deception Pass State Park to the 347 acres of old-growth forest filled with towering Sitka spruces, Douglas firs, western hemlocks, and western red cedars (one of which is more than 500 years old) that can be found at South Whidbey Island State Park, the island contains a diverse range of natural settings in which guests can reconnect to the great outdoors.
Staying on Whidbey Island, guests will have no shortage of natural attractions to enjoy—and the options become even most vast if they head to neighboring Camano Island and San Juan Islands. At the latter, guests can explore the verdant forests and rolling farmlands of Lopez Island, the 5,252 acres of natural splendor of Moran State Park on Orcas Island, and the art galleries, antique shops, bookstores, boutiques, cafes, and museums of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island—along with the marine life-filled waters that surround the 172 islands and reefs that make up the San Juan Islands.
The bed and breakfast is about two hours and 20 minutes from Seattle, where the nearest international airport is located.Activities near Oak Harbor

During their stay at the bed and breakfast, guests will be free to explore the 80-acre grounds of the horse farm on which it is located. Horseback riding lessons and rides are available from the host, and hayrides are available by special appointment as well. Guests can also take peaceful walks on the estate's wooded trails and pastoral roads, stopping by its fish and amphibian-filled pond along the way. In the woods and at the pond, guests may see a variety of wildlife and birds, including deer, loons, kingfishers, egrets, and bald eagles.
At the estate, guests can also play horseshoes, watch the horses grazing in the fields or the horse trainers working with them, help feed the horses and/or bring them into their stalls from the paddocks, enjoy pottery painting, gather around a private campfire (where they can even be serenaded by a local solo guitarist), enjoy an in-room massage, or simply savor the peace and quiet.
With so much to do at the farm alone, guests could easily spend their entire getaway at it—but if they wish to venture out, they will be well-rewarded for doing so, with more than eight state parks and nature reserves to explore on Whidbey Island alone, and many more attractions to be found on the neighboring Camano Island and San Juan Islands, as well as the various marine life-filled waterways that separate them and represent an attraction unto themselves. From hiking, biking, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing on land to boating, sailing, kayaking, fishing, and whale watching on water, guests will have no shortage of activity options. Kayaking tours are available from Anacortes Kayak, and whale watching tours are available from Mystic Sea Charters.
For shopping and dining, guests will find a variety of options in downtown Oak Harbor, where they can also attend theatrical performances at the Whidbey Playhouse. If guests elect to explore the San Juan Islands, they can also check out the many art galleries, antique shops, bookstores, boutiques, cafes, and museums of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island -
