Gary is a retired Navy Commander who chose a second career at Brinks Home Security before finally "retiring" once and for all to the Texas Hill Country. Sherry founded The Newsletter Company in Dallas in 1981 and is easing her way into retirement. Why We Chose This Property: Growing up in Houston, Sherry vacationed in the Hill Country, enjoying the cool springs in summer and festivals like Wurstfest in the fall. During four years at UT, she explored the Hill Country towns from Wimberley to Luckenbach and all points in between. One of the most scenic views in all of the Hill Country is a stretch of FM 32 nicknamed "The Devil's Backbone" because of its winding curves and spectacular views. Gary & Sherry were frequent visitors to the area, and always dreamed of retiring in the Hill Country. When a ranch came up for sale in this choice spot, we bought the property and began building! What makes our cottages different? The cottages are architecturally unique, a mixture of old and new with a focus on beautiful architectural pieces from the past. Sherry's passion is restoring historic structures, including a 100-year-old office building in Downtown Dallas and a home in the State-Thomas Historic district that dated back to the 1880s. You'll pass by an old blue Victorian house at the entrance on FM 32, which we moved from Austin in 2016.RetirementCanyon Peaks is tucked away in Fischer, Texas, along the scenic “Devil’s Backbone” stretch of FM 32. Surrounded by oak trees, limestone bluffs, and wide-open skies, this part of the Hill Country is known for its natural beauty and laid-back charm. When you stay at the Cottages @ Canyon Peaks, you're a short drive from the clear waters of Canyon Lake, the shops and live music of Wimberley, and the historic dance halls and restaurants of Gruene and New Braunfels. Whether you’re tubing the Guadalupe River, sampling Hill Country wine, boating at the marina, or catching a sunset from the porch, this area offers something for everyone, all within 10 to 30 minutes. It’s peaceful, scenic, and just remote enough to feel like a true escape.
