Gonzales
One of the earliest Anglo-American settlements in Texas is Gonzales. It’s the site of the first skirmish in the Texas Revolution and had to be rebuilt in the 1840s. Many historic buildings still exist. Located between San Antonio and Houston, it’s easy and convenient to get to for all travelers. The climate in this region is humid subtropical, meaning summers are hot and winters are short and mild. To cool off, be sure to spend your days near a body of water. The Guadalupe River runs into the San Marcos, so glampers can go rafting, tubing, boating, fishing, or kayaking. For hiking and wildlife watching, head to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge along the Gulf of Mexico. Sailing, swimming, or sitting at the beach are also options. For a great trip, head to Gonzales, Texas.
