Set on a 1.5-mile-long stream with a large, private yard and views of its own waterfall, this cabin rental in the Natahala National Forest of North Carolina comfortably sleeps nine guests—perfect for a large family, a corporate retreat, or a gathering of friends. There are six bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and one half bathroom spread out over this three-story accommodation.

On the main level, guests will find an oversized great room with a fireplace; a gourmet kitchen; a master bedroom with a queen-size bed and bathroom; and an internal bed loft with a twin bed. Upstairs, there is a multi-story loft with a queen-size bed and a secondary room with a set of twin bunk beds. On the lower level, there is a secluded, king-size bedroom, laundry facilities, and a pool room. In addition, the master bedroom, the main-floor great room, the upstairs loft, and the downstairs gathering area all have their own porch and balcony area.

Meanwhile, there is a separate, in-law suite, which has two additional bedrooms. Each of these bedrooms has a queen-size bed, a full bathroom, and exterior access to the main cabin. Moreover, the uppermost bedroom has a fun, additional feature—a secluded outdoor shower! Guests can listen to the creek and the chirping birds while showering outside amid nature. There is also a third bathroom on the main floor for guest use when enjoying time around the fire pit.

The multiple, oversized porches are perfect for enjoying a morning coffee, and guests should definitely take advantage of the accommodation's private hot tub, too, whether at morning or at night. If guests fancy a stroll around the property, the 1.5 miles of private stream have a number of hand-hewed bridges and waterfalls to enjoy; they can even bring a rod and go fishing.

For those who enjoy a hike, there are five miles of private hiking trails at the property, which will allow guests to explore the surrounding nature in details and take photos of the abundant wildlife, waterfalls, streams, and various mountain views. Another fun fact about the area is that it's located in the Appalachian biosphere, which is home to the world's densest population of salamanders. Guests are warned not to touch them, however, as this protected species is known for its unique characteristic of breathing through the skin.

Guests should note that this accommodation is also available for events, weddings, and corporate retreats.

The host recommends that guests head to the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Set deep in the mountains of Graham County, this forest is a 3800-acre tract of endless forestry. Proclaimed one of the most beautiful forests in America, it is unmarred and undefiled by the hand of man and dedicated to the poet, Joyce Kilmer. Because of its relative isolation until recent years, the wooded area had remained untouched by the woodman’s axe. Huge poplars, some 20 feet in circumference, tower 125 feet or more toward the sky. Giant red oaks, magnificent hemlocks, and many other varieties of trees stand as proud neighbors. Once an isolated region only known to a few, Joyce Kilmer Forest has now become a wondrous attraction for many.

The host also recommends that guests head to the Snowbird Backcountry Area, the Cherokee National Forest and the Smoky Mountain National Park. Guests can also venture to local wineries and breweries in the area including, Calaboose Cellars, Nantahala Brewing Company, Ole Smoky Moonshine and Sugarlands Distilling. The Hillbilly Golf in Gatlinburg which has two unusual mountain side miniature golf courses that are packed with mountain hazards such as moonshine stills, outhouses, rocky walls and native plants. Lastly, this area offers plenty of delicious eateries from Bojangle’s Chicken ‘n Biscuits to a classic Delicatessen.
