For hiking, horseback riding, biking, and scenic driving, guests will find 850 miles of trails and a variety of backcountry roads winding through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Throughout the park, guests will also find a variety of streams, creeks, and rivers in the park on which they can go fishing; one of these creeks runs right by the cabin's property. Abounding with wildlife such as elk, white-tailed deer, and beavers, the park provides plentiful opportunities for wildlife viewing as well.

For whitewater rafting, guests can head up to Hartford, Tennessee, where a number of local outfitters offer trips on the Pigeon River. For skiing, guests can hit the slopes at the Cataloochee Ski Area. Day trip options include visiting the Biltmore Estate near Asheville, where guests can tour a historic mansion and its surrounding gardens.
