Hilton Head Island is 12 miles long and about five miles wide, making it a great place to explore by foot, boat, or bike. Charter sightseeing and fishing trips can be found at Harbour Town Yacht Basin, as well as docking for guests who have their own boat. The island is very bike-friendly and features a variety of trails, paved paths, and even the hard-packed sand of the beach.
Hiking, along with birdwatching and kayaking, can be done at the Audubon-Newhall Preserve, the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, or the Calibogue Sound. Local beaches such as Burkes Beach, Driessen Beach, and Coligny Beach Park are always fun. Adventure seekers can sign up for a zip-line tour high above the coastal Lowcountry.
Guests may want to grab the group and head out to the historic St. Helena Island, where the Spanish War-era Fort Freemont overlooks the Beaufort River. The island also has shopping, galleries, and restaurant. The serious golfers in the group will want to try their swing at area courses such as Heron Point by Pete Dye or the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
Other Hilton Head attractions include the Harbour Town Lighthouse, the Coastal Discovery Museum, and the Heyward House Historic Center.
