San José

A department next to Uruguay’s capital of Montevideo, San Jose is home to a number of beaches, historical monuments, and museums. There’s Playa Pascual, a beach that stretches along the coast of Ciudad del Plata with a scenic horizon. There’s also the coastal resort of Kiyú that offers three miles of luscious sands. Get a taste of the San Jose’s history by visiting the Departmental Museum of San Jose. Its historic significance is associated with the revolutionaries that took the city back from the Spaniards in 1881. The museum offers a number of exhibits and a library.
