Scenic views
About 20 minutes away is Nightcap National Park, with its ancient World-Heritage rainforests which protect several threatened species such as the rufous scrub-bird, red goshawk, masked owl, and regent bowerbirds. It is home to the nightcap oak, which can grow up to 131 feet (40 meters) high. It is the land of the Bundjalung People, who have lived there for thousands of years and who still use the ceremonial and sacred sites throughout the park. Also within the park is Protesters Falls, a wispy and cascading waterfall only a short distance from the entrance to the park.
The Channon contains many permaculture and organic farms as well as macadamia and coffee plantations. On the second Sunday of each month, there is a crafts market which attracts many musicians and vendors from the area. There are many other markets in other areas such as the Channon Craft Market and ones in Bangalow, Byron Bay, and Mullumbimby.
Byron Bay, just under an hour away by car, is a famous surf spot and is also known for its scuba diving, whale watching, and laidback lifestyle. There are many businesses focused on the alternative, holistic, and cultural, as well as many artists, writers, and filmmakers. Surfers may sometimes even find themselves lucky enough to be sharing the water with pods of dolphins. Topless sunbathing on Byron’s spectacular beaches is also not uncommon. There is a vibrant nightlife in Byron with music most nights at the Beach Hotel, the Railway Friendly Bar, and the Great Northern.

Being in such a natural area, glampers can take advantage of the abundant wildlife by attempting to spot various species on nature walks, such as the satin bowerbird, the Australian brush-turkey, and the lace monitor, one of Australia’s largest lizards. At Byron Bay, glampers can go whale and dolphin watching from the shore or can take a boat ride out into the glittering ocean.
While Channon has a lot to offer, glampers who want more of the amenities of a city can make their way to Lismore, about 30 minutes away, which has restaurants, shopping, and a movie theatre.
