Stanley, Tasmania

Detailed location provided after booking

Scenic views
This glamping site is located in Stanley, Tasmania—one of the northernmost points of the island, positioned on a peninsula that juts out into the Bass Strait. The most striking, distinctive, and prominent landmarks of the area is The Nut, which is an ancient volcanic plug situated on a state reserve of the same name. Rising 143 meters, the steep slopes of the plug terminate in a flat top on which visitors can walk across after reaching it by foot or chair lift.

The Nut is surrounded by an idyllic countryside filled with emerald fields of grass, dotted by the historic buildings of the small town of Stanley (population 481, as of the 2011 census), and surrounded by pristine beaches and the wild waters of the Indian Ocean. Other attractions in the area include the Highfield Historic Site, the Stanley Seaquarium, Cape Grim, Dismal Swamp, The Tarkine, Dip Falls, the Arthur River, and Rocky Cape National Park.

The site is about 45 minutes from Wynyard, one hour from Burnie, an hour and a half from Devonport, and two and a half hours from Launceston. Smithton is only 20 minutes away, where the nearest airport is located.

Guests can hike or take a chair lift up to the top of The Nut, a volcanic plug that is the area's most salient landmark. The plug has a flat top on which guests can then walk around in about 45 minutes, providing spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Around the coast, guests will find many pristine, secluded beaches for relaxation, swimming, and fishing.

The historic town of Stanley is well-worth a self-guided tour by foot, and a variety of guided tours are available in the surrounding area as well, including tours of Woolnorth (one of Tasmania's largest farm, located in Cape Grim), the Stanley Seal Cruises, scenic flights over the region, coastal cruises, and cruises on Arthur River. Visitors can also visit local attractions such as the Stanley Seaquarium, Dip Falls, Dismal Swamp, The Tarkine, Highfield Historic Site, and Rocky Cape National Park.
