At Zoodoo Zoo, only two minutes away, visitors can go on a safari tour and encounter ostriches, camels, zebras, meerkats, marmosets, koala bears, and many other animals. They can see even more animals, including wombats and sugar gliders, at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, only 10 minutes away.

In Richmond, visitors can stock up on groceries at the Richard IGA Supermarket, purchase seasonal produce at the Richmond Village Market, pick their own strawberries at the Littlewood Berry Farm, play golf at the Coal Valley Golf Links, enjoy handmade ice cream at Coal Valley Creamery Tasmania, eat made-on-site cheese and chocolate at the Coal River Farm, eat even more cheese at Wicked Cheese, satisfy their sweet tooth at Sweets and Treats, and visit a number of art galleries, antique stores, restaurants, and cafes. They can also visit historic sites, such as the Richmond Gaol, the Old Hobart Town Model Village, the Oak Lodge, Tasmania's History House, and the Richmond Bridge, which, at nearly 200 years old, is the oldest stone arch bridge in all of Australia.

While in Coal River Valley, visitors can go on tours and wine tasting trips at one of the many vineyards for which the region is renowned. They can also go on day trips to Hobart, Port Arthur, Huon Valley, Bruny Island, the Tasman Peninsula, and any of the numerous natural recreation areas in southern Tasmania.
